- In the first step, magnesium hydroxide is pipetted out to a conical flask and excess hydroiodic acid (IN) is added to dissolve Mg(OH)2 completely in the acidic medium.
- The unreacted acid can be calculated by titrating it against NaOH (1N) taken in the burette by adding methyl orange as an indicator.
- The color of the solution is pink in the acidic medium. At the endpoint, the color turns orange.
